Today, Tuesday, January 25th , Warren Burrows, the owner of the Groton Family Farm (GFF) property near the corner of Rte. 1 and Rte. 117, is making a very exciting proposal to the Groton Town Council.
Mr. Burrows' proposal envisions a large town green and community gardens filling most of the farm acreage, and its historic houses and barn converted into small shops and a coffee shop or restaurant. To fund this, he proposes a row of mini-houses along the western, already-developed side of the property, whose sale would help fund the restoration.

What an exciting and transformational idea for the Town of Groton!
Imagine a game on the Poquonnock fields, and a trip to the library or the new town green followed by lunch or ice cream at the shop next door! The Farm could become one of our most attractive public spaces and a hub for community gathering.
Remarkably, this property has been held by the Burrows family since the 1700s. Mr. Burrows would like to leave a legacy of public open space and GCA would like to help him achieve his goal.
For it to happen, this idea will need public support!
Tonight the Town Council Committee of the Whole will be meeting and the issue of preservation of the GFF is on the agenda, but no action will be taken on the GFF. Unfortunately, the public is not permitted to speak at a Committee of the Whole meeting.
Please write to the Town Council today, tonight or this week to let them know you strongly support maintaining the Burrows property as open space for all to enjoy.
Address your note to Mayor Melendez and members of the Town Council and send it to: council@groton-ct.gov
Thank you for your commitment to a greener future for Groton!
Sincerely,
