Groton Man Fatally Shot By Police in Old Saybrook
The man was a suspect in several bank robberies, police said.

Police have identified the man fatally shot by officers in Old Saybrook early Saturday morning.
The man was identified as Richard P Love, 31, of Groton.
Officers from the Old Saybrook police department with the assistance from Norwich Police responded to the Econo Lodge on Boston Post Road around 1 a.m. Saturday after learning that a suspect from several investigations was staying there. Police said the suspect was seen through the window with a firearm.

Police requested help from the Connecticut State Police SWAT team with the barricaded suspect.
Members of the SWAT team entered the motel room and located Love, who allegedly pointed a firearm at them. Police said he ignored orders to drop the weapon, at which point two members of the SWAT team discharged their weapon, striking the suspect.

Initially, police said one member of the SWAT team fired their weapon. After investigating, they determined two members of the team fired their weapons.

Love was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said they seized approximately 180 bundles of heroin and suspected crack cocaine from the motel room. In addition, police said they found a large amount of U.S. currency in the motel room that is believed to be linked to several bank robberies in southeast Connecticut and Rhode Island. A .45 caliber handgun and magazines loaded with ammunition were also seized from the scene.
Revere was a suspect in several bank robberies, according to police.
The two officers who fired their weapons were identified as Trooper First Class Daniel McCarthy, a 23-year veteran of the Connecticut State Police and Trooper First Class Carson Konow, an 8-year veteran of the force.
