A skimmer is an illegal device criminals attach to card readers to capture and steal data from the magnetic strips on cards. Most skimmers fit over card readers but those at fuel pumps are usually attached to a machine’s internal wiring.

The devices have been discovered recently in Connecticut towns including East Windsor, Brooklyn, Montville, and New London.

Anyone with information regarding illegal skimming devices or other criminal activity is encouraged to contact the Town of Groton Police Department at (860) 441-6712.
