Groton Town Police Respond To Phony Emergency Call
Town of Groton Police responded to a fraudulent call reporting an active shooter at the high school Friday morning.
GROTON, CT — Town of Groton Police responded to a fraudulent call reporting an active shooter at the high school Friday morning. Police said the call came in at 10:13 a.m. from an undetermined origin and "appeared to be a recording."
"Officers quickly responded to the area of Fitch High School, Groton Middle School, and Grasso Southeastern Technical School to establish the credibility of the threat," police said in a statement. "All schools were placed in lockdown protocols. It was quickly determined the incident was likely swatting and there was no active threat at any of the schools. Lockdown
protocols were lifted a short time later."
Police said multiple other areas of the state were affected by similar swatting incidents. Police said at this time there does not appear to be a public safety threat.
