More reasons to vote YES for Groton's New Town Charter

Material supplied by a former member of the RTM

Just now ·

Absolutely. Read the follwing article, excerpted from GRTV Website!
This is right on target. Don't let the naysayers try to frighten you
away from finally having YOUR OWN VOTE! They don't want you to be able
to directly help control what goes on in Groton. Take it from a person
who has actually SERVED on the RTM. She knows why this step is needed
better than anyone! Ed J

Good Evening Groton!
By Rosanne Kotowski
Please learn about the new Charter and Vote YES on November 6th!
As a former Charter Revision Commission member, this is my second post regarding highlights in the new Charter for you to consider.
The sections I would like to highlight today are again in Chapter 9 Budget and Finance.
Budget Referendum.
No two words ever sounded better together!
Finally, the Groton voters and taxpayers will have a direct say as to how their hard earned tax dollars are spent.
This is so important.
Why?
Town of Groton officials in both parties are not able to control spending.
Proof is in the yearly tax increases.
The taxes have increased 18.9% in the past 4 years.
This is out of control and definitely not sustainable.
In the new Charter the Budget Referendum will be held every year on the third Tuesday in May.
Voters will be provided with a summary 10 days prior to the referendum.

A budget referendum as the final step in the Town of Groton budget
process is what is needed to provide complete voter representation, as
well as potentially controlling spending.
I believe that the voters in Groton are engaged and paying attention.
The referendum votes over the past decade are proof of that, more than half passed.

The Groton Voters will have to decide if they believe an elected body
provides them with the best voter representation or a budget referendum
with each voter representing themselves, is the best voter
representation for the final step in the Town of Groton annual budget
process.
I encourage all voters to read the new Charter at GRTV2018.org or the Town of Groton website.
The budget referendum in the new Charter is a win for Groton voters and taxpayers!
Finally!
The voters will have a say as to how their hard earned tax dollars are spent!
Please Vote YES on November 6th!
