State Representative Dissatisfied With Possible Education Funding Cuts For Groton

A State Representative said she is dissatisfied with a recent plan that could substantially cut education funding for Groton and Ledyard.

HARTFORD, CT - Governor Dannel P. Malloy announced Friday revisions to the Executive Order Resource Allocation Plan along with the new municipal aid distributions associated with the plan, according to a release.

Following this news, Democratic State Representative Christine Conley announced that she will be aggressively fighting the governor's revised plan as it substantially cuts Groton and Ledyard education funding. "I am extremely disappointed in the governor's revision as it does not provide fair funding to Groton and Ledyard's education system," Conley said in a release. "These cuts are absolutely unacceptable. Groton and Ledyard schools will not be able to function with these significant cuts and our children will be the ones to ultimately pay the price. We have an obligation to provide our students with the resources to receive the best education possible and it would be impossible to do that with the governor's proposal."

The revised plan will go into effect October 1.

"It's important to remember that these numbers are not permanent," Conley said. "I will be coordinating with the Southeastern delegation to work in fighting these cuts and want to encourage other legislators to act with a sense of urgency to pass a budget that is fair to all municipalities."
