Teen Charged With Manslaughter In Fatal Groton Crash: Police
A teen is facing several charges in connection with an accident that led to the death of a 14-year-old boy in Groton, police said.

GROTON, CT — A teenager was arrested in connection to a fatal crash that killed a 14-year-old boy in October. The teen had been speeding and had an elevated blood alcohol level at the time of the accident, according to Town of Groton police.
Police responded to a report of a serious injury crash in the area of Fishtown Road at 1:21 a.m. Oct. 14.
Police arrived and found that a Toyota 4Runner with four people inside had crashed and left them seriously injured. All four people in the SUV needed to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency crews and were taken to local hospitals.

A 14-year-old boy later died at the hospital.
An initial investigation found that the Toyota was driving north on Fishtown Road just south of Mystic River Magnet School when it went across the southbound lane and left the road, striking a tree.

Police arrested the 17-year-old on Thursday who was the driver in the crash.
An investigation found that the teen "was driving with an elevated blood alcohol level and driving at speeds exceeding the posted limit," police said.
The teen was charged with second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, misconduct with a motor vehicle, two counts of first-degree assault, operation by a person under 21 years of age while blood alcohol content exceeds two-hundredths of one percent, speeding, failure to drive in proper lane, reckless driving, failure to wear safety belt (passenger), and violation of operator requirements by a 16/17-year-old.
