'We Thought We Had To Go,' Say Groton Utilities Officials On Kentucky Derby Trip: Report
Three utility executives testified this week before the Groton Board of Ethics.

GROTON, CT — During testimony Tuesday before the Groton Board of Ethics, three Groton Utilities officials claimed they went on a controversial Kentucky Derby trip last spring because they felt obligated to do so, reports The Day.
The three, Groton Utilities Director Ronald Gaudet, General Manager of Utility Finance David Collard and Groton Utilities Commissioner Edward DeMuzzio, told the board that they did not believe that they violated ethics laws by going. They said they believed, in part, that it was a team-building exercise.
A total of 44 people went on the $342,000 trip, hosted by the Connecticut Municipal Electric Energy Cooperative.
