Guilford Goes Back to School Aug. 30

The district will hold a series of open houses and other events to ease students, and parents, back into the school year.

 

Guilford students will return to school for the 2012-2013 academic year on Thursday, Aug. 30, and the district is planning a series of Open Houses and “Back to School Nights” to help parents and their kids get ready.

The elementary schools will have Open Houses on Wednesday, Aug. 29th from 2-3 p.m. Students and their parents/guardians are welcome to visit classrooms and meet with teachers.

At Baldwin Middle School, from 8 a.m., to noon, on Aug. 24, there will be an orientation picnic for students entering grade 5. New grade 6 students are also welcome to attend. The orientation is for students only.

Adams Middle School will host a Newcomers Orientation on Friday, Aug. 24, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in the school’s cafeteria. Students new to Guilford are invited to attend and listen to a talk from guidance counselors, tour the school, participate in a get acquainted activity and fill out an interest survey. Any incoming 7th graders who might be anxious about the transition to Adams are also welcome to attend. Please contact the school to let them know that you plan to attend at (203) 453-2755.

Guilford High School will host a Freshmen Orientation on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the GHS auditorium. Parents and student are encouraged to attend.

Back to School Nights

  • The district will also host a series of “Back to School Nights” at the schools. The schedule for these events is as follows:
  • A. W. Cox Elementary School, Calvin Leete School, Melissa Jones Elementary School and the Guilford Lakes School will hold its Back to School Night on Thursday Sept. 6.
  • Adams Middle School - Grade 7, Wednesday, Sept. 12; Grade 8, Thursday, Sept. 13.
  • Baldwin Middle School-Wednesday, Sept. 19, Grade 5; Thursday, Sept. 20, Grade 6
  • Guilford High School–Thursday, Oct. 4
  • College Fair at Guilford High School–Wednesday, Sept., 19, 7-8:30 p.m.

The district will also hold training sessions for volunteers in its “Extra Pair of Hands” program.  The orientation session is required for all adults who volunteer in Guilford Public Schools.
