Obituary: Suzanne Hart Lewis, 80, of Guilford

After her retirement from a 31 year career at Yale University, Suzanne pursued her interests in gardening, reading, travel, and swimming.

Suzanne Hart Lewis, a resident of Guilford since 1973, passed away at the age of 80 on Sunday, April 22 at Connecticut Hospice in Branford. Born on November 11, 1937 in Newport, RI, she was the daughter of the late James Kaull Hart and Virginia Hall Hart Braman.

Suzanne is survived by her loving husband William Lewis, her sons James Barnett and his wife Jane of Clinton, CT and Peter Barnett and his wife Paula of Higganum, CT, her five grandchildren Lauren Barnett of Burlington, VT, Stephen and Erin Barnett of Clinton and Matthew and Megan Barnett of Higganum, as well as two sisters, Barbara Cory and her husband George of Webster, NY and Virginia Thomas and her husband George of Seattle, WA. Suzanne is a 1956 graduate of Hamden Hall and attended Skidmore College.

After her retirement from a 31 year career at Yale University, Suzanne pursued her interests in gardening, reading, travel, swimming and scuba diving. She possessed an amazing talent for handcraft projects including quilting, cross stitch and knitting. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and her many adopted pets. She was a former volunteer with Forgotten Felines in Westbrook, CT. Suzanne will be laid to rest at the Island Cemetery in Newport, RI following a private family ceremony.
