UPDATE: Results: American Idol Season 14 Top 2 Finalists

Nick Fradiani, 29, of Connecticut learns tonight if he made it to the final two of the popular reality television show.

Connecticut is this close to getting its first idol, American Idol that is.

Nick Fradiani Jr., 29, reached the final 2 of American Idol Season 14 at the very top of the show, which began at 9 p.m. Tuesday.

There was no suspense, no long drawn out affair. As soon as the show began, they announced that Fradiani will compete with Clark Beckham for the title of American Idol Season 14 winner live 8 p.m. Wednesday night (May 13) on Fox.

Fradiani will perform several songs tonight, and we will keep updating this story.

Fradiani, 29, has quickly become one of the state’s most popular residents and has strong ties to Guilford, East Haven, Milford, and West Haven. His Facebook page has more than 42,000 likes.

Nick first sang his favorite performance of the year “Bright Lights” by Matchbox Twenty. Jennifer Lopez said when show’s creator, Simon Fuller, developed the show he was thinking of someone like Fradiani.

Harry Connick Jr. said Nick’s performance was a “great” one. The judges said both Nick and Clark Beckham tied after the first round.

On the second song, Fradiani sang Jason Mraz’s “I won’t give up,” and again the judges loved his performance. Keith Urban praised Nick for his piano ability and Lopez added it was such another “strong performance.”

Connick said Nick’s performances are punctuated by the real emotion he brings to the lyrics.

Nick saved the best for last with his new original song which he performed call, “Beautiful Life,” which is available on iTunes. (You can see Nick perform his new song below)

Connick said he really enjoyed the song, Lopez said it was amazing and Urban added Nick hit the “bullseye.”

After receiving much praise for his performance of Andy Grammer’s “Back Home,” last week, Fradiani recently learned he will perform with the prominent singer-songwriter in the finale show, Fox CT reported this week.

Fradiani, 29, and Grammer will reprise “Back Home” together, and will also perform Grammer’s latest single “Honey, I’m Good.”

More than 10,000 people packed the Guilford Green earlier this month for a parade and live concert by Fradiani, 29, who has ties to Guilford, East Haven, Milford, and West Haven.

American Idol showed footage of Fradiani’s homecoming. Snippets included Nick doing the weather forecast for FOX CT on television, playing a pickup basketball game, and arriving at his parent’s house in Guilford in a limo.

His father, Nick Fradiani Sr. said words can’t describe how proud he is of his son, while his mother added that she has such a “sense of pride” for what her son has achieved through his hard work.

As Fradiani came upon the Guilford Green, which included 10,000 fans, he said he was beyond words, according to the video footage aired last week on Idol.

“It’s a moment I’ll never forget the rest of my life,” Nick said.

“I’ve never been prouder to be your father,” Nick Fradiani Sr. said in the footage Idol aired last week.

To thank his supporters, Fradiani took to social media this past Sunday and requested fans send him phone numbers of mothers for him to call to wish them a Happy Mother’s Day.

“I had so much fun calling Mom’s today, might have to become a tradition,” Fradiani wrote on Facebook.

Before Idol, Nick said he and his band, Beach Avenue, of Milford, struggled just to fill a bar, and it’s amazing how things have changed.

By finishing in the top 5, Nick is at least assured of going out on tour with the remaining Idol finalists.

This isn’t Fradiani’s first time at the reality TV rodeo. He auditioned for America’s Got Talent last year with his Milford band, Beach Avenue, bandmates, performing original songs.
