Teen, 15, Fatally Shot In Guilford Identified: UPDATE
Police are investigating the shooting. No one is in custody as of late Wednesday, police said.

GUILFORD, CT — The Guilford community is grieving tonight after High School freshman Ethan Song, 15, was shot and killed inside a house at 104 Seaside Avenue near Chittenden Park Wednesday afternoon, police said late Wednesday. Details of what caused or led to the shooting have not been released but police said two teens, including Song, were inside the home around 3:30 p.m.
During a press conference, police said this is a "very tragic event" for the town, and urged the media and everyone to respect the privacy of the family members involved. Police said their investigation is in its infancy as they are waiting on search warrants Wednesday night to conduct a thorough review of the scene.
Schools Superintendent Paul Freeman said grief counselors will be present for students Thursday and he urged the media to refrain from going to the High School as it will be a very difficult day for students, police said in a statement. (Click here for updates from Thursday's press conference.)

Police said as of late Wednesday no one is in custody for the fatal shooting and they added that Song did not live in the home he was shot in. After Song suffered the gunshot wound he was rushed to the hospital where he died. The other teen was not injured, police said.
First Selectman Matt Hoey said in a statement, "On behalf of the Town of Guilford, I would like to extend the most heartfelt sympathies to the families impacted by the tragic event that resulted in the loss of one of our young adults. Guilford is a community that has always demonstrated the capacity to come together to support its neighbors and friends when these events happen to any member of the community and this will be no different."

"The Guilford Public Schools will be mobilizing counseling teams to support our students as they attempt to understand and deal with the impact to their lives. Additionally, Guilford Youth and Family Services is also actively engaged and prepared to provide support as well. While there will inevitably be a wide array of speculation on what happened, I would urge that we all respect the privacy of those involved. We will rely on the Guilford Police Department to conduct a thorough investigation and will share information as appropriate. I also ask that we all keep these families in our thoughts and prayers as they deal with this tragic event," Hoey concluded in his statement.
A basketball game between Guilford High School and Fairfield Prep was cancelled Wednesday night after both coaches discussed the tragic shooting.
Fairfield Prep's coach Leo Redgate told the Connecticut Post that the game had to be canceled as the students would be in no condition to play.
“Basketball pales in comparison to someone losing a life,” Redgate said via the Connecticut Post. “We all just have to realize that it can happen to any of us and love our families and friends as much as we can and appreciate every second we have with them.”
