1 Hospitalized After Kitchen Fire In Hamden
Officials say two residents were displaced from their home and one was taken to the hospital for evaluation after a kitchen fire.

HAMDEN, CT — One person was hospitalized for medical evaluation after a kitchen fire Thursday night in Hamden, according to fire officials. Crews were dispatched to a fire at 163 Helen St. at 6:02 p.m. on March 19. Rescue 2 arrived at the scene at 6:03 p.m. and reported smoke coming from the rear of the home, according to Fire Marshal Brian Dolan.
“Rescue 2 personnel encountered a heavy smoke condition emanating from the kitchen,” Dolan wrote in a news release. “The crew was able to knock down the bulk of the fire utilizing a water can. Engine 2 extinguished the remaining fire and hot spots in the surrounding area. The fire was declared under control by Battalion Chief John Spencer after approximately 15 minutes.”
Dolan determined that the fire was caused by a pan of oil igniting on a stove top burner. The fire then quickly spread to the adjacent cabinets.
