5 Teens Caught Trying To Burglarize Vehicles: Hamden Police

Police say the teens, between the ages of 14 and 15, were driving around in two stolen vehicles during the overnight hours in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — Five teens, between the ages of 14 and 15, were arrested after being caught breaking into vehicles during the overnight hours Thursday in Hamden, according to police. The teens, all boys, were driving two stolen vehicles, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Police responded to Thornton Street around 4:30 a.m. on March 26 on the report of “multiple people breaking into cars,” Smith said. A concerned resident notified police that five teens were entering parked vehicles.

Police soon found the five teens, who were trying to flee the area in two stolen vehicles, according to Smith. The arrested teens are between the ages of 14 and 15 years old. Three are Hamden residents and the others are from Derby, according to Smith.

They were charged with third-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary, third-degree burglary and third-degree larceny. They were all released to the custody of a parent or guardian. They are scheduled to appear in Juvenile Court in New Haven at a later date, according to Smith.
