8 Escape House Fire Overnight In Hamden
An overnight fire has displaced eight people in Hamden, according to fire officials.
HAMDEN, CT — Eight people safely evacuated a house fire during the overnight hours in Hamden, according to fire officials. Firefighters responded to a fire at 89 Stanley Road with Engine 2 the first to arrive at the scene within two minutes of dispatch (2:53 a.m.), according to Fire Marshal Brian Dolan.
Heavy fire was coming from an attached garage of a one-story ranch-style home. The fire was quickly knocked down by suppression crews, Dolan said.
“There was a heavy smoke condition throughout the home as crews checked for fire extension in the bedrooms directly above the fire,” Dolan wrote in a news release. “Fans were deployed to remove smoke and carbon monoxide from the house.”

One of the residents told fire officials that he woke up to hazy smoke in one of the bedrooms.
"He opened a door leading to the garage and saw that a vehicle in the garage was ablaze near the engine compartment," Dolan said. "He quickly alerted the other residents and they were all able to safely evacuate the home.
“The Hamden Fire Department would like to remind all residents of the importance of working smoke detectors. Early detection gives you the best chance of survival in the event of a fire. Smoke detectors should be on each level of the home and in each bedroom.”
