Abandoned Dog 'In Great Deal Of Pain' From Severe Medical Issues

Police are investigating after a dog was found abandoned with a severe medical condition.

HAMDEN, CT — Police are investigating after a dog with a severe skin condition was found tied up and abandoned next to an apartment building.

Police went to 670 Mix Avenue Aug. 13 and found the dog, who appeared to be in a great deal of pain, said Capt. Ronald Smith, police spokesman. The dog was described as a Yorkshire Terrier mix and is about 3-years-old.

The dog was taken to the North Haven Animal Hospital.

The skin condition was caused either by an autoimmune disease or a chemical/thermal burn, Smith said. Both ears were infected and needed to be partially amputated. The dog was also underweight and dehydrated.
