1. 2 Charged In Connection With Armed Robbery In Hamden: Feds (patch.com) — Hamden residents are learning more about a March armed robbery at Dix Convenience on Dixwell Avenue, as two New Haven men now face federal charges tied to that incident and another in East Haven. Prosecutors say the pair allegedly brandished firearms, stole cash, vape products, and cannabis, then fled in a store employee's car later found in New Haven. The case is being investigated by the FBI and Hamden, East Haven, and New Haven police.
2. Stratford fire chief is retiring after 25 years. He may be headed to Hamden (newsbreak.com) — Hamden's Legislative Council is poised to vote Oct. 5 on hiring retiring Stratford Fire Chief Jermaine Atkinson as the town's new assistant fire chief, a move that could quickly shape local fire department leadership. Stratford officials praise his 25 years of service as Hamden leaders advance his candidacy to the full council for final approval.
3. Building connections beyond campuses (qu.edu) — Quinnipiac students are increasingly stepping off campus to support Hamden residents, from crafting projects for community members to reading with local elementary students and visiting nearby senior living facilities. Through groups like J.U.M.P. Nation, Handprints for Sunshine, and Old Friends and New, students are building relationships, mentoring youth, and brightening days for older adults across Greater New Haven.
4. Top Colleges and Universities in Greater Fairfield and Westchester counties 2026 (westfaironline.com) — Hamden's own Quinnipiac University appears in a new ranking of 28 top colleges and universities across Fairfield and Westchester counties, listed with a 72% acceptance rate, 6,557 undergrads, and net tuition just over $40,000. The guide compares schools by selectivity, cost, and size, giving local families a snapshot of nearby higher-education options.
5. 2 arrested in alleged credit card fraud scheme at Wallingford hotel, police say (nhregister.com) — Wallingford police say a Hamden resident and another man are accused of using multiple victims' credit cards to pay for an extended hotel stay, leading to a series of identity theft and larceny charges. Both suspects were arrested months apart, each receiving a $50,000 bond as the alleged fraud scheme moves through the courts.
