Thomas “Tom” Joseph Shea, 68

Thomas “Tom” Joseph Shea, age 68 of Hamden, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2011. Thomas was born May 24, 1942 to the late Thomas & Gertrude (Larson) Shea in Naugatuck, CT.

He was raised in Waterbury, & was a 1960 graduate of Sacred Heart High School, & a 1965 graduate of Quinnipiac University. Tom retired from BCBS after 30 yrs of service, which has given him more time to enjoy his greatest passions in life. He loved his family and friends, more than words can describe. He loved being the jokester of the bunch, and traveling the country, with some of his favorite stops being Arizona and our National Parks, where he practiced yet another of his passions; photography. Tom’s beautiful photographs won many ribbons & awards from the fairs & contests that were entered with pictures he enjoyed capturing while out in nature. He also enjoyed camping, and was an avid golfer; he was a member of the Hamden Golden Age Golf Association.

Tom is survived by his loving wife of 18 years; Joan (Tanganelli) Shea of Hamden, daughters; Sherry (Matthew) Bessette of Waterbury, & Colleen (Drew) Caron of Plymouth, brother; Jack (Vanessa) Shea of Waianae, HI, grandchildren; Timothy, Brendan & Logan Bessette, & Jacques Caron. He is also survived by his first wife of over 22 yrs; Mary Ellen Shea of Florida.

The family will receive friends at the Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Ave., Hamden, CT, Tuesday, May 24th from 4pm-7pm. Friends & family will meet at the funeral home Wednesday morning beginning at 10am to form a procession, which will lead to Blessed Sacrament Church where the Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am. Interment will immediately follow in Beaverdale Memorial Park.
