Bicyclist Hospitalized After Crashing Into Vehicle: Hamden Police

The bicyclist was issued an infraction for the incident.

HAMDEN, CT — A bicyclist was hospitalized with a collarbone injury after going through a red light and crashing into a vehicle in Hamden on Wednesday afternoon. At about 1 p.m. on Oct. 17, Hamden Police responded to the intersection of Ridge Road and Waite Street on the report of an accident, involving a motor vehicle and a bicycle, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that the bicyclist, a 53-year-old New Haven resident, was traveling southbound on Ridge Road, at a “pretty good speed.” He subsequently struck the passenger side of a vehicle that was traveling westbound on Waite Street, according to Smith. Further investigation revealed that the bicyclist went through a red light and he was cited for failure to obey control signal, Smith said. The man suffered a collarbone injury and was taken to Yale-New Haven Hospital.
