Two other suspects ran away from the stolen vehicle, which crashed after fleeing from police around 4 a.m.

HAMDEN, CT — A 17-year-old Hamden resident has been arrested and police are continuing to investigate after the teen crashed into a utility pole in a stolen vehicle early Saturday morning. Police responded to the area of Paradise Avenue and West Woods Road at about 4 a.m. on Oct. 27 on the report of suspicious activity. A resident told police they saw a male “leaning into a vehicle, with his feet hanging out of the vehicle,” according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Officer Michael White arrived on the scene and conducted a motor vehicle stop. Smith said the vehicle subsequently fled from the scene at a high rate of speed and struck a utility pole at the corner of Shepard Avenue and West Woods Road. The vehicle’s two occupants ran away, according to Smith.

Moments later, Officer Enrique Rivera-Rodriguez apprehended the operator of the vehicle on West Woods Road, Smith said. Police found that the vehicle had been stolen from a Hill Street residence. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.
