Driver Hospitalized After Crash That Downed Power Lines In Hamden: PD
Police release details on the crash that closed part of Whitney Avenue for nearly a full day.

HAMDEN, CT — A driver was hospitalized after a two-vehicle crash Wednesday night that damaged several utility poles and closed part of Whitney Avenue for nearly a full day, according to police.
Police responded to Whitney Avenue near Route 15 around 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 5 on reports of a crash, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Two vehicles were involved, and a telephone pole was struck during the collision.
Dolan said one vehicle rolled over during the crash and power lines were knocked down onto the roadway, along with two utility poles. One of the utility poles contained multiple electrical transformers, according to Dolan.

A third utility pole also had extensive damage, Dolan said.
The Hamden Fire Department assisted police officers at the scene and extricated a driver from one of the vehicles.

Dolan said the preliminary investigation found that one of the drivers may have suffered a medical emergency leading up to the accident.
The 23-year-old driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, according to Dolan.
Whitney Avenue was closed for approximately 21 hours while utility companies repaired the extensive damage to the utility poles and wires, Dolan said. Whitney Avenue reopened around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to Dolan.
