Customer Hits Suspect With Purse In Attempted Restaurant Robbery

A customer helped stop a robbery at a restaurant in Hamden by striking the suspect with her purse.

HAMDEN, CT — A customer helped stop a robbery at a restaurant by striking the suspect with her purse Friday night in Hamden. At about 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 7, Hamden Police responded to OZ Korean Kitchen, 2775 Dixwell Avenue, on the report of a robbery, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said investigation revealed that an individual, described as a white male, 5-feet, 7-inches tall, wearing dark clothing, approached an employee and asked for change. When the employee opened the cash drawer, the man attempted to steal its contents, according to Smith.

The employee briefly struggled with the suspect and a customer struck him with her purse in an attempt to “stop” him, Smith said.

Police are continuing to investigate and expect to make an arrest for the attempted robbery, Smith said.
