Driver Found With Knife, Drugs During Traffic Stop: Hamden Police

Police say a speeding driver, who went through a red light, was found with a large butcher knife and marijuana during a traffic stop.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was arrested after police say he was found with a “large butcher knife” and marijuana during a traffic stop early Sunday morning. At about 3:45 a.m. on April 22, an officer saw a vehicle speed through a red light at the intersection of Dixwell Avenue and Putnam Avenue, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

During the traffic stop and search of the vehicle, police seized “a large butcher knife” that had a 10-inch blade, a digital scale and a bag of marijuana, according to Smith.

Smith said the operator of the vehicle, Michael Snape, continually “interfered with officers throughout the encounter.” He was placed under arrest and taken to Hamden Police Headquarters, according to Smith.
