Hamden Announces Veteran’s Day Celebration

Davenport-Dunbar Residence will host the celebration on Nov. 4. Read details of the day's events here.

HAMDEN, CT – A special ceremony honoring Hamden’s veterans will be held on Friday, Nov. 4, beginning at 9:30 a.m., at the Davenport-Dunbar Senior Residence.

The ceremony will specifically honor the 45 men and women residing in at Davenport-Dunbar who volunteered to serve in the United States Armed Forces, as well as veterans from the V.A. Hospital in West Haven and other neighboring communities. The event will take place at 125 Putnam Avenue in Hamden.

Ray Andrewsen of 1220WQUN will be the master of ceremonies and remarks will be shared by Mayor Curt Balzano Leng, State Senator Joseph Crisco, and Hamden Town Clerk Vera Morrison.

The ceremony will be attended by elected officials such as Representative Rosa DeLauro, Senator Richard Blumenthal, State Senator Martin Looney, State Representative Michael D’Agostino, and State Representative Robyn Porter.

The event program includes: The Hamden Fire and Police Departments' Honor Guards and Pipers, patriotic medleys from Hamden High School and Middle School choirs, performances of TAPS by Nancy Tozzo and the National Anthem by Tony Dee and Mary Knoll, commemorative videos by Andrew Young, remarks from elected officials, and the presentation of blankets for VA hospital veterans.

Recognition will be given to Commander Abner Oakes, chairman of the Hamden Veterans Commission, Hamden Fire Chief, David Berardesca, and Hamden Police Chief, Thomas Wydra. The invocation and benediction will be delivered by reverend Owen Sanderson.
