Hamden Coronavirus Update: Police Warn Of Scam

Police are warning residents of a scam involving the new coronavirus.

HAMDEN, CT — Hamden police are warning residents and surrounding communities of phone scams involving the new coronavirus.

“If you receive a telephone call from an alleged charity asking for cash or a gift card, it’s more than likely a scam,” Capt. Ronald Smith wrote in a news release. “Please do not mail or wire money and/or gift cards in these instances. In addition, there have been various phishing schemes involving email and texts. Scammers are making a valiant effort to obtain your personal information. If you are suspicious, research the company or contact them by telephone. Some of these phishing schemes are quite sophisticated.”

Residents are urged to contact the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000 if they have questions or concerns with regards to potential scams.
