Hamden Democratic Primary Election 2023: Mayoral, Council Candidates

HAMDEN, CT — Registered Democrats in Hamden will head to the polls on Tuesday, Sept. 12 for a primary election that features races for mayor and Legislative Council.

Incumbent Democratic Mayor Lauren Garrett is seeking a second term in office, and faces a primary challenge by Board of Education member Walter Morton IV.

Garrett, who was first elected in 2021, received the Democratic Town Committee’s endorsement in July.

Morton is running a slate of candidates for Legislative Council to challenge the committee’s endorsed candidates.

The endorsed candidates for Legislative Council At-Large are Dominique Baez, Tasha Hunt, Katie Kiely, and Laurie Sweet. They are being challenged by Steven Boddie, Reginald Lytle, Melinda Saller, and Larry Zackery.

In the 1st District, endorsed candidate Sean Cardwell is being challenged by Dan Garrett.

In the 3rd District, endorsed candidate Abdul-Razak Osmanu faces a challenge from Delroy Crawford.

In the 5th District, endorsed candidate Rhonda Caldwell is being challenged by Webster Zackery Jr.

In the 7th District, endorsed candidate Adrian Webber faces a challenge from Myla Wilson.

In the 8th District, endorsed candidate Ted Stevens is being challenged by James Baker.

The winners of Tuesday’s primary will be the Democratic candidates on the ballot in the municipal election in November.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12.
