Garrett Beats Morton In Hamden Democratic Primary Election
Incumbent Democratic Mayor Lauren Garrett faced a challenge from Board of Education member Walter Morton IV in Tuesday's primary election.

HAMDEN, CT — Incumbent Democratic Mayor Lauren Garrett fended off a primary challenge from Board of Education member Walter Morton IV on Tuesday as she eyes a second term in office this November.
Garrett defeated Morton by a vote of 2,689 to 2,096, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of the State’s Office.
Morton also ran a slate of Legislative Council candidates in the primary.

The Democratic Town Committee’s endorsed council candidates all won their races, according to Garrett.
“The Row A endorsed Democrats all won tonight!” Garrett wrote in a post on Facebook on Tuesday night. “Thank you Hamden Democrats for your vote of confidence for me along with our entire team, to continue our work for another term.

“Thank you Walter Morton for Mayor for your congratulations and I look forward to our conversations to come. Congratulations to your team for your spirited campaign.”
Garrett, who was first elected in 2021, received the Democratic Town Committee’s endorsement in July.
Garrett will face Republican Crystal Dailey in the municipal election in November.
