Hamden Event To Support 'Thanksgiving For All'

HAMDEN, CT — Local food and fund drives are helping Connecticut Food Bank in its goal to provide "Thanksgiving for All." Events in Hamden, Oxford, and Derby are being highlighted as part of this year's campaign.

Nov. 21 and 22 in Hamden Plaza: The KC101 Stuff A Bus Food Drive returns to Hamden Plaza on Dixwell Avenue in Hamden. This has been a holiday tradition for nearly 30 years and is hosted by KC101 and 960 WELI.

Adam Rivers and Ashley from KC101, and Vinnie Penn from 960 WELI will be among personalities at the drive, which will run both days from 6 to 7 a.m. Connecticut Food Bank volunteers from will join KC101 and 960 WELI to collect frozen turkeys, financial donations, and nonperishable food items.

Nov. 21 in Oxford at Market 32 by PriceChopper: The Star 99.9 FM Food Drive will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Connecticut Food Bank volunteers will join Star 99.9 to collect frozen turkeys, funds, and nonperishable food items. Market 32 by PriceChopper is at 300 Oxford Road in Oxford.

Nov. 22 in Oxford at Market 32 by PriceChoper: The 99.1 WPLR Sam Tilery Food Drivewill be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Connecticut Food Bank volunteers will be there with WPLR to collect frozen turkeys, financial donations, and nonperishable food items.

Nov. 23 in Derby at Heav'nly Donuts: The WTNH News 8 morning news team of Gil Simmons, Keith Kountz, Laura Hutchinson, and Alyssa Taglia will be at Heav’nly Donuts at 658 New Haven Avenue from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Connecticut Food Bank volunteers, collecting donations of frozen turkeys, financial donations, and nonperishable foods.

People may also donate frozen turkeys, funds, or nonperishable food through Nov. 22 at Connecticut Food Bank in Wallingford, at 2 Research Parkway, from 8: 30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or at Connecticut Food Bank in Bridgeport, at 229 Mountain Grove Street, 7:30 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

“These food and fund drives are vital to helping us provide 20,000 turkeys and holiday meals,” said Connecticut Food Bank CEO Valarie Shultz-Wilson in a statement. “We are grateful to our community partners who give so generously of their time and energy to help. Hunger is a year-round problem for more than 144,000 people who visit our network each month seeking help. We work hard to meet those needs, but the holidays are a time we strive even more to help all who are in need be able to share the joy of the season.”
