Hamden Issues Parking Ban, Announces Transfer Station Closure

HAMDEN, CT — The Town of Hamden has issued a parking ban effective Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6 a.m. until further notice. Town officials have also announced that the Hamden Transfer Station will be closed on Feb. 9 and warming centers have been opened in anticipation of the snowstorm.

The parking ban prohibits any person to park, or allow to remain parked, any vehicle on any odd numbered portion of a town street or highway.

The ban further prohibits any person to allow or permit a vehicle to stand or park on any town street or highway in such a manner as to constitute a hazard or obstruction to vehicular or pedestrian traffic.

The Hamden Police Department is authorized, pursuant to Section 71.07 of the Code of the Town of Hamden, to remove any vehicle parked in violation of this ordinance. Such removal shall be at the risk and expense of the owner of the vehicle.

The town is also offering warming centers to those who may be in need.

All Hamden fire stations will serve as warming centers. Additionally, during normal operating hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.), the Keefe Center, Town Libraries, the foyer of the Police Department and the Government Center Building will also serve as warming center locations.

The front foyer of the Police Department will function as a warming center with 24-hour access.

Operating hours for the Miller Library are 10 a.m. – 9 p.m. Monday-Wednesday and 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday.
