Hamden K-9s Receive Ballistic Vests
K-9s Sar and Blaze received the vests thanks to generous donations from the community.
From the Hamden Police Department: In October of 2015, Detective Mark Consorte approached Hamden Police K-9 Unit trainer and supervisor Lieutenant Frank McDermott on behalf of Lee Baldieri of the American Wine Society. Lee was interested in hosting a fundraiser for the purchase of ballistic vests for Hamden’s police dogs.
The HPD had two new K-9s that were in need of protective vests, and on November 5, 2015, an event was held at Mickey’s Restaurant. It was a huge success, and enough money was raised to buy vests for both K-9 Sar and K-9 Blaze.

One particular donor was the Vingiano family of North Haven—Gary and Bill Vingiano donated the full cost of K-9 Sar’s vest.

In thanks, the vest was embroidered with “This gift of protection is donated in the name of Big Bill Vingiano,” in honor of their late father. The community donated sums large and small, and we are grateful for their generosity.
