From the Hamden Public Library: The Hamden Book Group will be discussing the 2016 Pulitzer Prize Winner for fiction, “The Sympathizer” by Viet Thanh Nguyen on Monday, April 24th from 7-8 pm, and on Thursday, April 27th from 2:00-3:00 pm in the Friends Room at Miller Memorial Library on Dixwell Avenue, Hamden.
In a review for the April 2, 2015 issue of The New York Times Book Review Philip Caputo calls Mr. Ngyen’s debut novel “remarkable.”
He states, “Nguyen, born in Vietnam but raised in the United States, brings a distinct perspective to the war and its aftermath. His book fills a void in the literature, giving voice to the previously voiceless while it compels the rest of us to look at the events of 40 years ago in a new light.”
