Hamden Nursing Home Fined for Resident Falls: Report

The state Department of Public Health recently fined four nursing homes for various violations, including injuries resulting from falls.

HAMDEN, CT — Whitney Rehabilitation Care Center in Hamden was one of four nursing homes recently fined by the state Department of Public Health in connection to resident falls that resulted in injuries, according to the Connecticut Health I-Team.

Cara Rosner of the Connecticut Health I-Team reports that Whitney Rehabilitation Care Center was fined $2,570 for two incidents with the first occurring on Aug. 23, 2015, when a resident with severe dementia fell out of bed onto the floor and required four staples for a head laceration.

In the other incident, on Sept. 20, 2015, a non-ambulatory resident suffered a left hip fracture while being moved from a bed to a wheelchair, according to Rosner.
