Hamden Opens 'Cooling Stations'

HAMDEN – Due to the extreme heat forecast, Mayor Leng wishes to remind residents that all public buildings, including libraries and fire stations, are air-conditioned and open to the public during regular business hours, with some locations open on weekends and through the evenings. Locations such as the Government Center, Keefe Center, Police Department, and the Miller Library Complex have been designated as cooling stations and will have water available to those in need. The cooling stations are meant for temporary respite from the heat, especially for the elderly and those with respiratory issues. Please refer to the entire list of cooling stations below. For further information, please contact Fire Chief Berardesca's office at 203-407-5880 and in cases of emergency always call 911 for immediate assistance!

The front foyer of the Police Department will function as a cooling center with 24 hour access. Operating hours for the Miller Library are 10am – 9pm Monday-Wednesday and 10am-5:30pm Thursday-Saturday. Branch Libraries are closed on Wednesdays and weekends, please visit www.hamdenlibrary.org for complete operating hours of Branch Libraries. Operating hours for all other locations are 8:30am – 4:30pm Monday-Friday.
