Hamden Opens Emergency Assistance Center
The center has been opened for Hamden residents affected by the storm.

HAMDEN, CT — An Emergency Assistance Center has been opened for Hamden residents affected by the storm, town officials announced on Thursday. Mayor Curt Balzano Leng held an emergency storm management meeting this afternoon to coordinate storm relief efforts. Fire Chief/Emergency Management Director David Berardesca has activated the town’s Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Emergency Assistance Center, located at West Woods School, 350 West Todd Street, will be open from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. It will continue to open daily until there is a more thorough restoration of power to the area, officials said.
The Emergency Assistance Center, in coordination with the Red Cross, will provide drinking water, coffee, snacks, dry goods, mobile device charging, bathroom facilities, and information to residents. For those without running water, bring your own buckets to take home water for flushing, etc.
Any homebound residents who can’t make it to the Emergency Assistant Center needing water, food, or medical supplies, can call the Fire Department at 203-230-4000 extension 0.

Additionally, the Hamden/North Haven YMCA, located at 1605 Sherman Avenue (203-248-6361), is allowing residents to use their shower facilities and to charge phones during business hours. For those showering, you will need to provide identification and sign a waiver. The YMCA is open Monday through Friday 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Saturday 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“I want to express my thanks to all the Public Works and Public Safety staff, our CERT volunteers, who are helping our residents during this natural disaster that has caused very serious damage to the town and many homes, with over 500 trees having come down in the northern area of town,” Leng said in a press release.
