Hamden Police Charge Man with Robbing Taxi Driver at Knife-Point

The taxi driver was robbed by a passenger he picked up in New Haven and drove to Hamden.

Hamden police have arrested a New Haven man for allegedly robbing a taxi cab driver at knife-point in late December.

Police responded to the area of Marlboro Street and Winchester Avenue on the report of an armed robbery on Dec. 26, Capt. Ronald Smith said in a press release.

Smith said investigation revealed that a 48 year-old “Metro” taxi cab driver transported a passenger from Cedar Street in New Haven to Marlboro Street in Hamden.

Upon arriving on Marlboro Street, the passenger held a knife to the taxi cab driver’s throat and demanded money. He subsequently fled on foot toward Newhall Street with an undisclosed amount of money.

Detective Jomo Crawford conducted an extensive investigation that led to the application of an arrest warrant for Aaron Johnson.

Hamden police arrested Johnson on Jan. 20 at Meriden Superior Court.

Johnson, 39, of 126 Cedar Street in New Haven, was charged with first-degree robbery and second-degree larceny. He was detained on a court-ordered $250,000 bond and was arraigned later in the day.
