Hamden Police Complete Emotional Survival Training
More than 200 police officers, supervisors and civilian employees from Hamden, North Haven and East Haven took part in the training program.

HAMDEN, CT — More than 200 police officers, supervisors and civilian employees from the North Haven, East Haven and Hamden Police Departments completed a regional training program on the topic of emotional survival and wellness for police officers.
Chief Thomas McLoughlin of the North Haven Police Department, Chief Edward Lennon of the East Haven Police Department and Chief Thomas J. Wydra of the Hamden Police Department announced the completion of the program, which was presented by Dr. Kevin M. Gilmartin, on Thursday.
The training program, which took place from Oct. 3 to Oct. 5, was held at the ceremonial courtroom of the Quinnipiac University Law School located at 370 Bassett Road in North Haven.

The police chiefs issued the following joint statement:
“The wellness of police officers is one of the more contemporary issues in policing. This seminar offered greater insight, and a reminder, to our officers of the need to maintain good physical and mental health throughout their careers. As mentioned by Dr. Gilmartin, police officers have greater morbidity and mortality rates than the general public, primarily because of cardiovascular disease, cancer and suicide. For these reasons, we must provide for the short-term and long-term wellness of our personnel.
“We also want to extend our sincere appreciation to Quinnipiac University for providing such an outstanding venue for these lectures.”
