Hamden Police Not Pursuing Vehicle At Time Of Crash: State Atty
The State's Attorney office found that officers weren't actively pursuing a vehicle when it crashed. A passenger was killed.
HAMDEN, CT —The New Haven State's Attorney office found that Hamden Police weren't actively pursuing a vehicle at the time of a fatal crash.
Hamden officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle on Aug. 17, 2018 after a burglary. Operator Brandon Shealy fled and police terminated the pursuit shortly after as the vehicle entered New Haven, according to the state's attorney report.
"After a thorough review of witness statements, surveillance videos and physical evidence, the State’s Attorney’s Office has concluded that no officers were actively engaged in a pursuit at the time of the crash," the office said in a statement.

Shealy lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree. His passenger Jarelle Gibbs, 24, died due to injuries. Shealy was arrested.
