Hamden's Callahan Records First Shutout in SCSU Women's Lacrosse History

NEW HAVEN, CT — Led by a balanced offensive attack and three saves from goalie Chelsea Callahan, of Hamden, the Southern Connecticut State University women's lacrosse team registered its first shutout in program history Thursday night in an 18-0 thrashing of Post University.
The Owls improved to 2-1 overall, while Post dropped to 0-5.
Nine different Owls had a point in the game, led by five points each (four goals, one assist) from Nicole Healey (Milford) and freshman Samantha Cozzolino (Hamden). Tessa McNaboe(Burlington) also scored four times for the Owls in the win.
Kennedy Sherman (Buchanan, N.Y.) added a goal and two assists. Carolynn Keal (Southington) also scored twice, while Jennifer McCarthy (Norwalk) had a goal and an assist. Ella Akier (Wallingford) and Lauren Anderson(Cheshire) contributed a goal apiece, while Taylor Portelinha (Woodbridge) recorded an assist.
The Owls were up 5-0 within the first 8 minutes and had a 10-0 lead with just over 10 minutes to go in the opening half. SCSU led 14-0 at the break and added four second-half goals to finish out a dominating effort.
Southern Connecticut is back in action on Saturday for a road game at St. Thomas Aquinas.
