Honorary Hamden K-9 Arlo Passes Away
Arlo, who was born with a heart defect, checked an item off his "bucket list" when he served as an honorary K-9 in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — The Hamden Police Department shared the sad news Wednesday night that honorary Hamden K-9 Arlo has passed away. Arlo, who wasn’t expected to reach 3 months old due to a heart defect he was born with, served as a honorary K-9 with the Hamden Police Department last November as part of his “bucket list.” He was 11 months old.
Arlo had been adopted by Ashley Sakelarakis of the Woodbridge Animal Control. Sakelarakis is a Hamden native and reached out to the Hamden Police Department to help Arlo check an item off his bucket list last year.
“The Hamden Police Department is saddened to hear of the passing of Honorary Hamden Police K-9 Arlo,” police said in a post on Facebook. “After being born with a heart defect, Arlo was deemed incurable and given 6 months to live. That is when his owner Ashley Sakelarakis created a bucket list for her best friend, which included being a Police K-9. Arlo sadly lost his battle after 11 months.
