Kitchen Fire Displaces Residents In Hamden

Three people were displaced as a result of the fire, according to officials.

HAMDEN, CT — Three residents were displaced after a kitchen fire damaged a home on Warren Street Thursday afternoon in Hamden, according to fire officials. Firefighters responded to 86 Warren St. at 4:30 p.m. on the report of smoke in the home. A woman had just returned home and saw the first-floor filling with smoke and immediately left the house and called 911, according to fire officials. Hamden Rescue Company #2 arrived on the scene and reported a working kitchen fire.

“The main body of the fire was quickly extinguished and crews overhauled the kitchen area to check for extension and ventilated the smoke out of the structure,” officials wrote in a news release. “Battalion Chief Gary Couture declared the fire under control at 04:40 p.m. There was heavy fire damage to the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the home.”

Fire Marshal Brian Dolan determined that the fire started due to a stovetop burner that was accidentally left on. The burner ignited a pan that had cooking oil in it, according to Dolan. Three residents were displaced as a result of the fire and no injuries were reported.
