Lane Closures Announced for Skiff Street in Hamden

The closures will begin Monday, Dec. 12 as work starts on the Skiff Street Bridge replacement project.

HAMDEN, CT — The town of Hamden announces lane closures that will take on Skiff Street beginning on Dec. 12 as part of the work being done as the town replaces the Skiff Street Bridge over the Mill River. The bridge is being replaced in multiple phases over the next few years.

United Illuminating will be conducting additional underground conduit installation during the week of Dec. 12 as the utility crews prepare for the bridge replacement. Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 12, two lanes will be closed to allow for the installation of conduit. The lanes are expected to be reopened around 5 p.m. Please expect significant traffic delays during the day on Monday.

The businesses along Skiff Street will remain open.

Following the aforementioned work, the middle lane will be closed during the day for 2-3 days to install the remainder of the conduit. A single lane will be open each direction. There will be construction equipment and workers in and around the work site, so please use caution and leave the crews plenty of space in which to work.

The Town of Hamden is replacing the Skiff Street Bridge over the Mill River in multiple phases over the next few years. Additional utility work, minor clearing and site preparation will be conducted through December and into early 2017. During this period, some minor lane closures can be expected during the work day.

Full bridge replacement construction is anticipated to begin in the early spring of 2017. The road will be open for traffic and emergency vehicles at all times; however some minor traffic delays can be anticipated when construction vehicles enter and exit the immediate work area.
