Hamden officials have taken several steps to mitigate the spread of the new coronavirus. All Hamden basketball and tennis courts are closed. This is in addition to the closure of all town playgrounds/playscapes and the Hamden Dog Park.

Leng has been imploring residents to "get serious" about making positive healthy steps regarding the pandemic. He recently ordered the basketball and tennis nets taken down after seeing too many people and close-contact sports taking place on the town's courts.

Leng issued another emergency order Sunday that expands on the directive for residents to avoid congregating in open space areas and maintaining social distancing of at least 6 feet in all areas.
