Man, 60, Accused Of Sexually Assaulting Child: Hamden Police

The man was found by authorities after "suddenly" moving out of his apartment in Hamden, according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A 60-year-old Hamden man, who is accused of sexually assaulting a child, was found hiding in a New Haven apartment after “suddenly” moving out of his apartment in Hamden, according to police. Hamden Police responded to Yale-New Haven Hospital on Jan. 13 on the report of a sexual assault of a child, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said Det. Angelo DeLieto of the Hamden Police Department Special Victims Unit assumed the investigation that led to an arrest warrant for Angel Vasquez Sr.

Hamden Police attempted to arrest Vasquez at his residence on Concord Street in Hamden but officers found that he “suddenly moved and cleared out his apartment,” according to Smith. Investigation revealed that Vasquez was attempting to gather funds to flee to Ecuador, Smith said.

Officer Andrew Lipford and members of the U.S. Marshals Service Connecticut Violent Fugitive Task Force successfully located Vasquez, who was hiding in a New Haven apartment, according to Smith.

Vasquez was charged with first-degree sexual assault and risk of injury to a minor. He was detained on a court-ordered $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Feb. 4.
