Man Caught Burglarizing Home In Hamden: Police

The burglar alarm was activated around 2 a.m., according to police.

HAMDEN, CT — A man was arrested after police said he was caught burglarizing a home early Saturday morning.

Police responded to the 1800 block of Dixwell Avenue around 2 a.m. on the report of a residential burglar alarm activation, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Moments later, Officer Keron Bryce found Chas Williams in the rear of the residence, according to Smith.

Smith said Williams had a hammer and there was a damaged screen and broken window on the property. Williams was arrested and taken to police headquarters, according to Smith.

Williams, 49, of Plaza Terrace in Hamden, was charged with second-degree criminal attempt to commit burglary, second-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools. He was held in lieu of a $25,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 7.
