Man Fired Shots At 2 People During ‘Heated Exchange’: Hamden PD
Police say the dispute began in Bridgeport and continued into Hamden early Sunday morning.

HAMDEN, CT — A New Haven man was arrested after police say he fired multiple shots at two people during a dispute that began in Bridgeport and continued into Hamden early Sunday morning. At about 2:30 a.m. on July 29, Hamden Police responded to the area of Dixwell Avenue and Benham Street on the report of shots fired, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said investigation revealed that a “heated exchange” occurred between Gary Hurse and two individuals. The dispute, which began in Bridgeport, continued in the parking lot of 660 Mix Avenue and Hurse then fired a gun multiple times at the individuals, according to Smith.
Moments later, Officer Jenisse Perez-Hernandez arrested Hurse and a subsequent search of his vehicle led to the discovery of two loaded firearms, according to Smith.

Hurse, 64, of Dixwell Avenue in New Haven, was charged with two counts of illegal discharge of a firearm, two counts of first-degree threatening, first-degree unlawful restraint, first-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree breach of peace. Hurse, who was detained on a $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 13.
