Man Kicks in Door, Assaults Homeowner: Hamden Police

Hamden Police responded to a burglary-in-progress and encountered the suspect in the kitchen.

HAMDEN, CT — A Hamden man faces several charges after police say he kicked in a set of doors, assaulted the homeowner and damaged a kitchen stove on Tuesday night.

Hamden Police responded to a second-floor home in the 1000 block of Dixwell Avenue on the report of a burglary-in-progress on Nov. 8, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Upon arrival, Officer Robert O’Neil encountered Eric Mayo standing in the kitchen.

Smith said investigation revealed that Mayo had forcibly entered the residence by “kicking” a set of two doors. Once inside, Mayo is accused of assaulting the homeowner and damaging a kitchen stove.

Mayo was promptly arrested and transported to police headquarters.

Mayo, 33, of Ives Street in Hamden, was arrested on charges of second-degree burglary, third-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief and second-degree breach of peace.

Mayo, who was detained on a $5,000 bond, is scheduled to appear Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 22.
