Man Punched ‘Good Samaritan’ In Face During Liquor Theft: Police
Police say the man also spit on the 'Good Samaritan' and ran over his foot with a car while stealing 4 bottles of liquor in Hamden.

HAMDEN, CT — A Bloomfield man was arrested after police say he punched a “Good Samaritan” in the face, along with spitting on him and running over his foot with a car, while stealing $84 worth of alcohol from a liquor store in Hamden. Olevia Cook, 57, is accused of leaving Hometown Wine and Liquors, 60 Skiff Street, with four bottles of liquor he didn’t pay for on Aug. 10, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Smith said the store owner attempted to detain Cook and a “good Samaritan,” who has been identified as a 29-year-old Hamden resident, tried to help the store owner. To sign up for Hamden breaking news alerts and more, click here.
“Cook subsequently punched the ‘good Samaritan’ in the face and spit on him,” Smith said. “Cook then entered a vehicle and ran over his foot.”

Police located Cook in New Haven where he was arrested and taken to police headquarters.
Cook, of Park Avenue in Bloomfield, was charged with third-degree robbery, second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. Cook, who was detained on a $50,000 bond, was scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Aug. 20.
