HAMDEN, CT — Police are asking for help with identifying a man accused of trying to rob another man while brandishing a box cutter and implying he had a gun Sunday in Hamden. Police responded to Hamden Laundromat, 852 Dixwell Ave., on Dec. 22 on the report of a “customer dispute,” according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Smith said responding officers quickly learned that an attempted street robbery had occurred. Police found that the victim left his vehicle and entered the laundromat. He was followed by a suspect, described as a black man in his 30s about 6-feet tall with a goatee and wearing a red jacket, according to Smith.

The suspect demanded money from the victim, while brandishing a box cutter, Smith said.

The victim refused, at which time the suspect “gestured to his waist line,” indicating that he was in the possession of a gun, according to Smith. When an employee called police, the suspect left the laundromat and ran southbound on Dixwell Avenue.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hamden Police Department at 203-230-4000.
