Men Caught Breaking Into Vehicles Overnight in Hamden: Police

Police say one of the men was wanted on three outstanding arrest warrants.

HAMDEN, CT — Two men, including one who was wanted on three arrest warrants, were caught breaking into vehicles overnight in Hamden, according to police.

Hamden Police responded to the area of Wilmot Road at about 3 a.m. on Jan. 4 on the report of suspicious activity.

A concerned citizen had observed two individuals “rummaging” through two unlocked motor vehicles, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.

Moments later, Officers Edward Stoor and Joseph Venditto detained the two individuals, Coleman Wallace and Jevon Johnson, who were walking in the neighborhood. Smith said investigation revealed that they entered the parked vehicles.

Wallace was in the possession of numerous items, including a knife, Taser, pepper spray, credit cards, military compass and a purse, according to Smith.

A computer inquiry revealed that there were three arrest warrants for Wallace. Johnson was in the possession of electronic equipment, according to Smith.

Wallace, 35, of Read Street in New Haven, was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary, two counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary and carrying a dangerous weapon. Coleman is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 18.

Johnson, 29, of Helen Street in Hamden, was charged with two counts of third-degree burglary and two counts of conspiracy to commit third-degree burglary. Johnson is also scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 18.
