Men Caught Removing Catalytic Converters From Cars Overnight: PD
Three men from Ohio were caught removing catalytic converters out of parked cars overnight in Hamden thanks to an alert resident, police say
HAMDEN, CT — Three Ohio residents, including one who was wanted as a fugitive from justice, were caught removing catalytic converters out of parked cars early Friday morning thanks to an alert resident who reported hearing power tools, according to police. At about 4 a.m. on Oct. 26, Hamden Police responded to the 900 block of Mix Avenue on the report of suspicious activity after a resident reported hearing power tools coming from the parking lot, according to Capt. Ronald Smith.
Moments later, officers detained Darnell Bullitt, Robert Callahan and Lamar Pierre, according to Smith. Following a search of their vehicle, police found a “vast array of power tools” and four catalytic converters that were recently removed from nearby parked vehicles, according to Smith. Bullitt, 39, of Cleveland, Ohio, was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools. Bullitt, who was detained on a $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 9.

Callahan, 34, of Euclid, Ohio, was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools. Callahan, who was detained on a $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 9.

Pierre, 31, of Cleveland, Ohio, was charged with third-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny, third-degree criminal trespass, third-degree criminal mischief and possession of burglar tools. Pierre, who was detained on a $25,000 bond, is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Nov. 9. Pierre, who was wanted on the strength of an arrest warrant out of Ohio, was also charged with fugitive from justice.
